oba sushi izakaya

this was an incredibly uneventful date night.

i filled jesse in on some work drama-some of which he should have cared about and some of which he was allowed to tune out.

the food was delicious.  it has been a while since we went out for sushi, almost six months i think, which is a big deal for us. so tonight was my suggestion, since usually it is me saying "let's eat something other than sushi" (i literally think i could eat sushi until i rolled over dead-and i'm not ready to do that yet-so i have been avoiding it) anyway, it was nice.  the rolls were interesting, the atmosphere was quiet (more because it was slow than anything else), and the chefs sincerely took their time with the food.  i love watching sushi chefs.  i find their finesse with knife to be mesmerizing; and these guys were slow and methodical.  it didn't come across as insecure, but careful.

i am not one to be too adventurous in the sushi realm, but i certainly appreciate when restaurants offer daring options. i'm not talking nasty fat american shit, like cream cheese, jalapeno, and a california roll; but rather mango, brown rice, and cucumber wraps.

it was a pleasant change.

i would probably go back for a casual, romantic, dinner...but for some quick, stuff-your-face-and-possibly-roll-over-and-die sushi, i'll stick with my half-priced gems.
